Building Blocks Program

Many of our Bon Air students are participants in a program that benefits them and their families, and may help ease some financial burden.

First Christian Church, Kokomo, has chosen to facilitate providing rolling backpacks filled with foodstuffs to 60 students each week as part of their many mission projects. Food is supplied through Food Finders Food Bank, and is entirely funded through private and corporate donations. The program requires many volunteers who package, deliver, and pick up all backpacks each week. We are very thankful for their help.

The backpack program is designed to…

  •        Ensure proper nutrition during weekends
  •        Teach personal responsibility
  •        Help families reduce their total food bill

Each Thursday, participating students are issued a backpack filled with nutritious items to supplement items that may be at home. Students are given the responsibility to return empty backpacks on Friday morning.

Along with providing supplemental foodstuffs, this program has also sent gloves and hats to students in November. They have also provided hats and gloves to our school to be distributed to those in need.

The Building Blocks Program currently services up to 60 students and their families.

If a family is interested in participation in this program, notify your child’s classroom teacher, and release forms will be sent home with your student. Any permission/release forms received after our program is full will be put on a waiting list.
